Celebration of Life will begin at 2:30 at Roselawn with Alan Watkins officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery. In case of icy conditions on Sunday, all will be rescheduled to Tuesday, January 14 at the same place and times.
Mr. Page is survived by his son, Harvey Page (Tina); daughter, Amy Henderson (Mark); four grandsons, Steven Page (Jenni), John Mark Henderson (Elizabeth Anne), Kyle Henderson (Amy), and David Page (Cathy); and three great-grandchildren, Ava and Connor Henderson and Naomi Page.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Lila Page; one daughter, Linda Page; his parents, Lewis and Aquilla Page; two brothers, Wendell and Edward Page; two sisters, Eunice Lackey and Jo Chrisman; and one great-grandson, Barrett Henderson.
Mr. Page was born in Woodville, Alabama on May 24, 1922, to Lewis and Aquilla Page. He graduated from Woodville High School in 1941, and attended Florence State Teachers' College. He entered the army in 1943, serving with the 1879** Aviation Engineering Battalion in New Guinea and the Philippines. In 1945, he returned to Florence to finish his degree, and later completed a master's degree at Peabody Teacher's College on the GI bill. In 1948 he married Lila Page, and both began teaching at Eva School. He coached basketball and baseball at Eva, and later at Trinity High School. In 1955, he began coaching basketball at Austinville Junior High and Gordon-Bibb Junior High. From 1961 until 1979, he coached basketball and taught physical education at Decatur Junior High and Oak Park Middle Schools, from which both he and Lila retired. After retiring from teaching, he worked in the cabinet shop of the school maintenance department for many years, and continued running the scoreboard at Ogle Stadium until around 2008. He was inducted into the Morgan County Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
After retiring, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and watching sports. He grew enough vegetables to feed a small army, kept chickens and supplied many friends with eggs, and built beautiful custom furniture for friends, family, and whoever asked. He spent countless hours helping build and maintain Camp Ney-A-Ti, a Christian camp in Guntersville. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, serving as a deacon at Memorial Drive and Beltline congregations.
He faithfully attended and supported Decatur Church of Christ from 1989 until the present. After the passing of his beloved wife in 2020, he continued to pursue his hobbies as a way to carry on through his grief. He was a beloved "Poppie" to his grandsons and great-grandchildren, and a staunch example of faithfulness to anyone who knew him. When asked the secret to his long life, he said, "Good genes, clean living, the good Lord, and a handful of pills." Amen, Pop.
Pallbearers will be Steven Page, John Mark Henderson, Kyle Henderson, David Page, Andy Harrison, Richard Dobbs, Andy Nash, and honorary pallbearer Robert Page.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Ney-A-Ti.
Roselawn Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family.
