Rodney Kevin Hampton

Rodney dedicated more than 45 years of his life to the field of radiation protection, earning the respect and admiration of coworkers throughout his distinguished career. He began his career with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in Florence, Alabama, and later served as a Radiation Protection Specialist at Duke Energy's McGuire Nuclear Station in Huntersville, North Carolina. His commitment to excellence, safety, and professionalism left a lasting impact on the many people with whom he worked.

While Rodney took great pride in his career, his greatest joy came from spending time doing the things he loved. An avid motorcyclist, he enjoyed the freedom of the open road and was always eager for his next ride. He loved flying drones, working on cars, and spending days on the water, often taking family and friends out on his boat to create memories that will be treasured for years to come. Rodney was known for his generous heart and willingness to help anyone in need. Whether repairing something for a neighbor, sharing his knowledge, or simply offering a helping hand, he lived a life marked by kindness, loyalty, and quiet generosity.

Rodney is survived by his loving sister, Denice Ising and her husband, Don; his nieces, Natalie DaLuz and her husband, Carlos, and Bess Annerton and her husband, Derek; and his four great-nieces and one great-nephew, all of whom brought him great pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Archie Hampton, and his mother, Martha Lee Hampton.

Rodney will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his unwavering work ethic, his love of family and friends, and the countless lives he touched through his compassion and generosity. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rodney's life at First Baptist Church in Decatur, Alabama. Visitation will be held on September 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, Rodney will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the ALS Foundation in honor of Rodney Hampton. Contributions may be made online at als.org and will support research, patient care, and efforts to find a cure for ALS.
