1 pm at Roselawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 15, 2019 4pm until 6 pm at Roselawn Funeral Home.
Mrs. Powell was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She dedicated her life to her loving family and friends with an uncommon level of unconditional Love. The love and positive attitude she exhibited was felt and returned in like-kind by all who knew her. In addition, she had a love and passion for all animals and a strong effinity for all babies, all of which taking to her immediately, the babies with a big smile and open arms.
Mrs. Powell was a dedicated Christian servant and a member of Calvary Assembly in Decatur with prior associations with Central United Methodist, First Methodist and Southside Baptist Church. In years past she had been very active in the local and state chapters of the Garden Club of Decatur and was the former head and representative of the Morgan County Beautification Committee. Once her children were grown, Mrs. Powell became a successful realtor for Gateway Real Estate of Decatur where she enjoyed meeting and serving her clients and co-workers. She was also a lifetime auxillary of post 4190 with VFW.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Miles T. Powell; children, Mary Ann Powell Mays (John), Janet Powell Compton (Thomas V.) and Miles T. Powell, Jr. (Isabel); grandchildren, Lauren Washco Sabatini (Peter), Christopher Washco, Clay Womack, Graham Powell, Alex Powell (Julie)and Harrison Powell; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Burl Wilber and Pearl Dunn Wilber; brother, Charles Alex Wilber and sister, Ann Wilber Odom.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Christopher Washco, Clay Womack, Graham Powell, Alex Powell, Harrison Powell and Andy Foppe.
