Roxie Ann Thomas Hoffman, 92, of Decatur, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on November 15, 2025, surrounded by family and joined virtually by those who could not be present. Born on September 19, 1933, in Boaz, Alabama, she lived a long and joy-filled life rooted in faith, kindness, and an unfailing love for the people around her.
Ann attended Fairview Baptist Church, and she lived her faith through action—welcoming others with open arms, offering encouragement freely, and treating everyone she met with the same warmth and sincerity she gave to family. She truly never met a stranger; her ability to spark conversation, make connection, and brighten someone’s day was her everyday ministry.
Her faith was a steady foundation throughout her life, and her favorite hymn, “How Great Thou Art,” was one she carried close to her heart. Its words were a source of comfort, reflection, and strength—now echoing through the memories of those who loved her.
The greatest meeting of her life was the day she met and married Henry Lane Hoffman, her beloved husband of 75 years. Their life together was a testament to partnership, devotion, and enduring love—a foundation on which generations of family were built.
Ann was the loving mother of: - Joyce Bright (deceased February 15, 2021) (Richard) - Lane Hoffman (Cheryl) - Wayne Hoffman (Donna) - Gail Hoffman.
She was also the mother of a second set of twins who were stillborn, precious children she was never able to spend time with in life but carried in her heart always. Ann is now reunited with them at last—a quiet, sacred part of her story that her family holds with deep reverence.
And we know that the laughter surrounding her reunion with Joyce has echoed throughout Heaven—both of them sharing that unmistakable, joyful sound of happiness that we all long to hear again.
She was beloved by her grandchildren, who each had their own special names for her—“Grandmama,” “Plano,” “Grandmother,” “Sharder,” and “Grandmomma.” She answered to all of them with the same smile, warmth, and unconditional love. Her grandchildren are: Jason Bright, Deanna Bright Lyons (John), Meleah Carr (Carl), Eric Hoffman (Katie), Brian Hart Hoffman (Stephen), Justin Bright (Gai), and Brady Lett (Alicia).
Her legacy of love continues in the generations that follow: her 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, with another on the way. Each one carries forward a piece of her joy, her gentleness, and her generous spirit. Beyond her immediate family, Ann also cherished a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and many others she loved as her own, all of whom were shaped by her kindness and unmistakable, welcoming warmth.
When asked for their lasting memories of her, her grandchildren spoke with deep affection. They described her as someone who “never met a stranger,” who “gave everything she had to see a smile on our faces,” and who was “fun and funny, and cared deeply for others.” They remembered that “her smile and laughs were always sincere and contagious,” a reflection of a heart that delighted in loving others well.
Ann’s legacy lives on in the stories she shared, the laughter she inspired, the meals shared around her table, and the unwavering love she poured into every member of her family. Her presence was a blessing, her love a constant, and her life a cherished gift.
She is survived by her husband, Henry; sons Wayne and Lane; daughter Gail; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren (with another on the way). She is also survived by her beloved sister, Janie Ashley, age 102. She is preceded in death by her parents, nine siblings, and her precious daughter, Joyce.
The family will be celebrating the love and life of Roxie Ann Thomas Hoffman in a private memorial service. To honor our ever-talkative, always smiling, and endlessly engaging Ann, speak to a stranger with a smile, help someone who needs encouragement, and shine love on her behalf.
We would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for their excellent care. A special thanks to Amanda, Bridget,Rayleigh, Kyle, Wendy & Sarah. Of course we want to thank our social worker Kim and Chaplain Otto for their beautiful music and singing of favorite hymns especially “How Great Thou Art”!
