Sherri Garner Rahm

Born on March 25th, 1953 in Decatur, Sherri was the beloved child of Etha Mae and James Earl Garner. She spent her life devoted to family, friends, her church community, and music education.

Sherri graduated from the University of Alabama and worked as an elementary music teacher for several years. She married R. David Rahm, Jr. in 1975, and together they have three children. After taking time off to raise her children, Sherri returned to teaching elementary music until she retired after almost 25 years.

In retirement she continued to follow her passions through active involvement in local organizations including the Decatur Youth Symphony, Decatur Music Club, Culture Club, Morgan County Dulcimer Association, Cursillo, and La Leche League, among others. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, cooking, playing the dulcimer, and singing in the St. John’s Episcopal Church choir.

Throughout her life, she was guided by a profound sense of social responsibility. She was a steadfast champion for the rights and well-being of others, guided by an unwavering belief in justice, equality, and human dignity. She will always be remembered for her kindness, optimism, generosity, and devotion.

Sherri is survived by her husband of fifty years, Robert David Rahm, Jr., her children Wendi (Joseph Miller), Blythe (Garret Syfan), and David (Amanda) Rahm, III; her grandchildren Mary, Samuel, David IV, Flannery, Emma, and Harbor, and her siblings Carolyn Garner and Jim Garner.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Cathy Anne Garner.

A funeral service will be held on July 13, 2026 at 11:00am CT at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Decatur, AL. Visitation will take place at 10:00am CT in the church’s library.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations can be made to PACT of Decatur, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Decatur Youth Symphony, or that acts of kindness be performed in Sherri’s memory.

Sherri will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
