Shirley Lee Holmes

Funeral for Sonny Holmes, 70, of Decatur will be Saturday, September 29, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jay Rhodes and the Rev. Carl Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time.

Mr. Holmes, who died Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Huntsville Hospital, was born April 24, 1942, in Morgan County to Adlie Lee Holmes and Frances Blankenship Holmes. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from Champion Paper Mill after 28 years of service. He was a member of South Decatur Church of God. He dearly loved his best friend, Buddy Boy. His parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty McCaig Holmes; one son, Tommy Holmes (Genny) of Decatur; one daughter, Tammy Holmes Austin (Allan) of Decatur; four brothers, Jackie, Philip, Mike and Tim Holmes, all of Decatur; three sisters, Joy Ellis and Nancy Parker, both of Decatur, and Rachel Shores of Birmingham; and two grandchildren, Holly Grace Austin and David Allan Austin II, both of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be nephews.
