Funeral for Thomas Marel Sheats Sr., 84, of Decatur will be Sunday, August 14, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Dallas Culver officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Sheats, who died Friday, August 12, 2011, was born June 13, 1927, in Decatur to John Baker Sheats and Grace Napps Sheats. Mr. Sheats grew up in Decatur and attended Austinville High School, graduating in 1945. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he attended The University of Alabama, graduating in 1949. His employers included Decatur Iron and Steel Company, Baker Industries, Universal Construction Company and Bryson Construction Company. He was a member of Austinville United Methodist Church and a longtime member of Memorial Drive Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Dorothy Moore Sheats; and one brother, John P. Sheats.

Survivors include one son, Thomas M. Sheats Jr.; one daughter, Pamela Sheats Dilbeck and son-in-law, Bradley Dilbeck; three sisters, Anna Mae Cloyd, Murel Royer and Vivian Grace Stone; and one grandchild, Blair Clarkston Dilbeck.

Memorials may be made to Austinville United Methodist Church and United Methodist Committee on Relief.
