Dr. Troy A. Smith, 94, of Decatur, AL, died peacefully on Monday, January 30th at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Dr. Smith worked as a Civil Engineer for over 50 years with the Dept. of the Army on Redstone Arsenal and was part of the Patriot Missile invention team. He was an author and WWII Navy combat veteran who served as a Quad .50 Gunner in the historic Battle of the Philippine Sea.
He is preceded in death by his parents Wade H. and Augusta M. Smith, twin brother Roy, brothers Albert and Wallace and sister Mabel, all of the Commonwealth of Virginia. He is survived by his loving wife, Grace M. Smith, his stepdaughters Susan Dees Tidwell (Mike) and Rita Dees Weeks and his step-grandchildren Chris Dees, Michael Tidwell (Stephanie) and Nicole Tidwell Mulvaney (Kevin).
A funeral visitation service for Dr. Smith will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 4th with his service at 2:00 PM and burial at Roselawn Cemetery to follow.
