Stan was a man of adventure, independence, and many talents. He lived a life filled with experiences, pursuing his passions with determination and a willingness to chart his own course.
Stan spent 28 years working for Chrysler, but his adventures extended far beyond his career. While still employed at Chrysler, he established Captain Cook Charters, taking others fishing along the rivers of northern and central Alabama.
During those same years, Stan was also a certified scuba diving instructor, sharing his knowledge and passion for diving with others, including astronauts training at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Following his early retirement from Chrysler, Stan pursued his captain’s license and gained experience working as a deckhand before taking his love of fishing to the Gulf Coast, where he became captain of his own deep-sea fishing charter boat. His years on the water earned him the fitting nickname “Captain Cook.”
His interests were as varied as his adventures. Stan enjoyed playing rugby, golf, and softball, and he spent time officiating baseball and basketball games.
An avid outdoorsman, William especially loved hunting. From deer and wild boar to bobcat, dove, and squirrel, he enjoyed the challenge of the hunt and the freedom of being outdoors.
Stan lived life on his own terms, collecting experiences and stories along the way. His adventurous spirit and the memories he created will live on through those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Cook; his father, William Hugh Cook; his brother, Jim Cook; and his daughter, Jamie Johns.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Lee Cook; his son, Justin Johns; and his grandchildren, Lee McGee, London Chenault, Ayden Johns, Jakob Johns, Theo Johns, and Jaedyn Horne.
Arrangements for a private gathering of close family will be announced at a later date.
Fair winds and following seas, Captain Cook.
