
Bill Daves, 91, died November 9, 2011 at 7:35 a.m. at his home in Hartselle, Al.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 12:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur, Al . Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at Forest Hills Cemetery in Birmingham, AL at 3:00 PM on Saturday.
Mr. Daves, also endeared as Corkey and Gramps to friends and family, was born July 31, 1920 in Columbus, MS in the community of New Hope.
Mr. Daves served in the United States Navy, during World War II as a 3rd Class Store Clerk on ships in the South Pacific. In 1946 after the war he returned to work at Greyhound Bus Lines in Birmingham, Al and retired from there after 37 plus years as a Tour and Ticket agent. In 1948 he met and wedded Vera Mae Lumpkin. They were married for 54 years until her death in 2002.
Mr. Daves is survived by a daughter, Denise Gail Daves McSweeney and son-in-law Joey McSweeney, son Raymond Arthur Daves, Sr. and daughter-in-law Dixie Corbin Daves
Grandchildren Toni Baldus Como and husband Scott Como, Raymond Arthur Daves, Jr. and wife, Melanie Mitchell Daves, Kaitlin Elizabeth Daves and Julie Elise Daves.
He is also survived by a brother, Harold Gene Daves of Baton Rouge, LA.
Preceded in Death by his parents, Arthur Lanie and Ida Ethel Greene Daves of Columbus, MS, a brother, Millard Atwell (Pap) Daves, and sisters Ventrice Ethelyn Daves, Katie Lou Daves Hyde, Susan Daves Peters and Lottie Daves.
Mr. Daves was a member of Westview Church of Christ in Hartselle, AL and formerly a member Of the Edwards Lake Road Church of Christ in Birmingham, AL.
