William "Will" Steele Kirby III

Our hearts are broken. Saturday, August 30, 2025 our beloved son Will, left this earthly world and stepped into the heavenly one where he was welcome with loving open arms.

Will was full of love and kindness. He was a deeply loved son, grandson, nephew, and cousin. He was "the boy". Will touched many lives in school starting with week day school through Decatur High School where he played baseball. He attended the University of Alabama, he graduated with two degrees. He found a way to have fun and earn money. He became a DJ and played at local popular sites, events and charities after the tornado in 2011 that destroyed parts of Tuscaloosa. He was full of laughter, love and kindness, and a touch of mischief.

Will is survived by his parents William "Billy" Steele Kirby Jr., Daphne Thaxton Kirby (stepfather, Tom Carlisle); grandparents, Jim B. Thaxton (Sue Thaxton); aunt, Kelly Thaxton, Glenn Terry (Wallace); cousins, Leslie Thaxton, Hannah Clark, Jennie Roby (Whitt), Amanda Faulk.

Also he leaves behind a large circle of extended family and lifelong friends he cherished.

He preceded in death by grandparents, William S. Kirby Sr. and Louisa Glenn Kirby and aunt, Tracey Leigh Clark.

A visitation for Will will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 741 Danville Road SW, Decatur, AL 35601, followed by a celebration of life from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Burial will follow at Decatur City Cemetery 1001 Wilson St NW, Decatur, AL 35601.
