Audrey and Charlie were our dear friends for over 40 years.
Most of it was a long-distance relationship since we kept on
moving around the country.  I could always count on a regular phone call from Charlie and over the years we had some memorable trips together.  Audrey and Michiko (Mickey) were like sisters when we were together. The world is not the same without them.

Dear Linda and Family, I am so devastated to hear of Audrey’s passing. Please know that I will pray for you all during this difficult time. Please find solace that she is now reunited with Charlie. All my love Melinda( next door neighbor). 

I have made a contribution to the Methodist Endowment Fund in Audrey's memory. She was a lovely person and a loyal friend. She was always ready to give a friend her support or a word of encouragement or to say "I love you.". She was a joy to keep company with. Many of us at Croasdaile will miss her.

Aunt Audrey was my Godmother and Uncle Charley my Godfather. They were my parents laugh channels. Uncle Charlie always had a joke and Aunt Audrey would laugh which got my parents going and was like listening to kids in a playground!  The one story that did them all in was when they were walking in Seaside and UC was complaining his flip flop was hurting. My Mother told him to give it to her and she twisted it -a wee bit too hard - and it came apart in her hand. For the rest of their lives it was what made them lose it!!!!  I would lay money there were a few wet seats once in awhile   Love you - AA

Thank you Audrey for always being so kind and lovely to everyone around you. I will always remember you with a beautiful smile and a warm hug. It was an honor to have known you and spent time together, and I will always remember the love you gave to your family.

Audrey, aka “Petunia” as I called her, was my father’s, sister’s daughter, so my first cousin. I have had the pleasure of having her in my life since I was a little girl. 

Our families would get together for dinners or lunch from time to time. Audrey would come and visit my mom a lot when Charlie was out fishing or walking at with the guys and having coffee at the “Bean”. 

When Audrey was young, she lost her mother at a very early age and was raised by a very strict father. Times were not easy for her then and so my parents would be there for her when she needed them. In turn, when my parents became older and feeble, Audrey would come over and do shopping for them and handle my parent’s accounts while my sister and I were still working long hours in NYC. Audrey certainly did not have to do any of that but she loved my parents and she wanted to and I am forever grateful. 

When my niece Erin was young and had fencing meets, Audrey would come to watch and she would make yummy homemade pretzel snacks for Erin to have during the meets. Yes, I agree, with Audrey it was all about the cooking!!! She loved to swap recipes with me and she loved to cook for everyone. 

We spent many good times together when she was still on Long Island and many, many phone conversations after she left. I used to laugh when Bob would help Audrey with computer and phone questions, but for someone her age – she caught on pretty well. 

I will miss our conversations as much as I missed her when she moved. The small comfort for me is that now Audrey will be home again here on LI where she raised her family and where things were familiar and where she enjoyed the beaches, the Arboretum, sitting at Tanger Outlets and people watching and reading her books. 

And yes, as you had asked me to, Bob and I will visit with you and Charlie, and my mother and father all in one place.

I discovered my brother Chris would have the best mother-in-law in the world during my first visit to the Romano home in 1990.  Audrey, always loving, considerate and attentive to Brenda's future husband, had prepared a beautiful buffet-style meal for Chris' family (the Lopes) together with all the Romanos. As I reached with my fork to spear a deliciously satueed chicken breast from a plate piled high with them, Audrey exclaimed, "No Lorena, that plate of chicken is specially made for Chris! Here's the chicken for everyone else." Good for Chris, I chuckled to myself.
I came to discover that Audrey was kind, considerate and attentive to everyone.  She always complimented me with heart-felt admiration, even when I didn't deserve any particular praise. She made me feel special every time we were together. It was a rare gift that she had, to truly appreciate the people around her and to joyfully connect with them.
Especially touching to me is how she treated my daughter Clara, like one of her own grandchildren, remembering every birthday, holiday and special event. Even as they aged into their 20s, there would be chocolate turkeys for Thanksgiving, chocolate Santas for Christmas, and chocolate bunnies for Easter mailed to the grandkids.  And good chocolate too - Audrey knew food!
We were fortunate to have spent many a holiday and special event with Audrey and Charley, in Los Angeles at Chris and Brenda's home, as well as at our apartment in New York City.  There are so many good, happy memories of more than 30 years together, usually involving large meals!
Ever cheerful and positive, Audrey was a pleasure to be with, never a bother or burden to anyone. In her last text to me, not even a week ago, she said she wanted God to take her quickly - and God granted her wish. For the rest of us, though, Audrey went too quickly. Irreplaceable, she will always hold a giant, warm place in our hearts.
