Edgar was born on March 15, 1930 in Queens, NY to Axel Martin Swanson and Mary Elizabeth Brennan Swanson. He graduated high school with a GED and was a Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America, veteran of the U.S. Airforce and a member of the VFW. Nanette and Edgar were married on June 18, 1960 in New York. The family are members of Ascension Lutheran Church.
