The friendship these men had was extraordinary. We grew up with their families and they became our uncles. Say hi to Uncle Ronnie for me, Dad.

This is my favorite picture with you.You were a man of few words but sometimes those words meant all the difference. Thank you for loving me as your own Granddaughter. It was always a pleasure honoring you in the ways that made you happy a simple hug/hello an acknowledgement of your existence. I will miss your smile, your home that I played in as a child, seeing all your paintings and photos of family, your green thumb and all those plants and bonsais that flourished by your hand. The truth is you've been without Grandma for too long 24 years... give her a hug from me. ( she gave the best ones)
When ever we talked you always asked about my Violin and if I still played it you were very proud. In more recent years I didn't have the heart to tell you I have not touched it in ages. I miss it, and in honor of you one of these days I'll pick it up and think of you .
You were so stubborn and still driving about a year ago at 92!!! This last year you declined fast and lived in a mental and physical state that no one would want to,im so greatful you did not suffer long and that you passed in peace. You passed the same day as my Father in law did 7 years ago, cast a fishing rod in the sky with him if you can. I wish I could say Goodbye to you in a normal way but Covid keeps me at bay. Wow 93!! Rest in Peace dear Grandpa.

For years I felt ignored
and in turn I ignored.
at times it was true, my ingratitude—
I was an accident you had no insurance for.
I was young.
You were hard.

In that downtown seventh floor
blue collar sweat

Over the hum and whine of the presses
and the steady all night rhythm
of cams and lifters,

Awaft in the fumes of nasty solvents,
too much tobacco,
and bad coffee-shop coffee,

With the sheets as big as flags
squeezing through the cylinder guts
wheezing “machu-picchu, machu-picchu, machu-picchu,”

On those iron dinosaurs
with your glass on the proofs
and your killer-millimeter eye
and your light and nimble touch
on the dials and the keys,

With surgical wrench work
you split microdots and pushed half tones
till I was sure that ink coursed through your veins.

Back in the day of the punch-in punch-out,
face to face we shouted
grinding our wills
like gears out of time.
but you taught, I learned,
we labored
and noticed our double.

I will work paper too.

RIP - Dad (Dec 13, 1927-Jan 2, 2021)
To join Mom in the firmament.
