Lebrun, was born March 15th, 1937 in Arcahaie, Haiti. Ms. Lebrun was
fiercely independent, traveling throughout the caribbean islands buying
goods to sell in Haiti. She also worked as a seamstress. In 1978 she
moved to the United States and earned her citizenship.
Francoise affectionately known as Grun was a hard-working, proud
Haitian woman. Business savvy and determined Ms. Lebrun saved her
money with susus and purchased several homes on Long Island. Having
laid the foundation, she was able to move her daughter and grandchildren
to the United States.
Ms. Lebrun worked hard at Ademco and retired at the age of 65. She made
friends they’re that endured until her last days. After retirement Grun
enjoyed shopping at local thrift stores, markets and garage sales. She
would always take the opportunity to negotiate prices. Grun also enjoyed
watching professional wrestling for its theatrics. She would yell and cheer
for her favorite wrestlers on television.
Grun was known for being a strict, no nonsense woman that demanded
respect. She was not afraid of speaking her mind and did not shy away
from yelling to get her point across. The children she raised knew that
when she yelled “Aye frenk!” someone was about to get in trouble. “Tet
Grun te di!” is a phrase that best described her. Grun was stubborn and
not easily persuaded. Once she made a decision it was final.
Grun loved her family and wanted the best for them. She helped raise
countless grand and great grandchildren, biological and not. Her love for
her family and Haitian people had no bounds. Her life experience,
knowledge and hard work allowed her help those in need. Whether she
was giving advice or sharing meals cooked in her home, Grun’s role in her
family and community was invaluable.
