Herbert Franz Holzmann (Herbie) aged 94, died peacefully at his home in Tequesta, FL on June 3rd, 2026. He was born in München, Germany (Bavaria) on February 18, 1932. Beloved husband of the late Manda (married 70 years). Dear father of Ted (Mary) and Gary (Liz). Loving Grandpa of Kristen, Sarah (Stavros Savvas), Julianna and Jamie. Proud Army veteran.
Herbie grew up as an only child in Germany during WWII. After completing his basic education (Hauptschule), he was trained as a master carpenter/cabinet maker in Germany. Herbert immigrated to the United States, after meeting his future wife Manda, who traveled to Germany from the US to visit cousins there. Herbie enlisted in the US Army in 1955. He served at Fort Benning, GA. He became an American Citizen.
After the Army, Herbie and Manda moved to NY where over the years they lived in Cambria Heights, Queens, then Garden City, NY. They built a summer home in Shelter Island, NY. After the kids were grown, they moved to a condo in Jericho, NY and finally moved to Tequesta, Florida, where they lived for the last 11 years.
Herbie worked as a carpenter for Display Studios in Long Island City, NY. He worked his way up to Foreman. The family has many memories of his work on the 1964 World’s Fair and its Spanish Pavillion. He understood the display business very well, so he started his own display business, Delma Displays Inc. which he founded in 1972. His highly successful company made custom industrial exhibits and trade show displays. It was based in Long Island City, then Astoria, finally moving to New Hyde Park, New York. Manda served as bookkeeper and worked in the office for many years. He was a self-made man, who lived the American Dream.
Herbie and Manda enjoyed being with friends and family, espcially in Shelter Island, then in Florida. Herbie and Manda loved to travel. They went on many trips to Aruba; Branson, MO; Europe; Jamaica; and around the US. Herbie’s favorite pastime was dining out. He loved a good meal. Herbie is best known for his love of cookies and treats. Thankfully, he was surrounded by many wonderful bakers and cooks. He also loved the peaceful serenity of nature and sitting on the deck in Shelter Island looking out at Peconic Bay and the views as well as watching the birds from their Florida condo on the NE Loxahatchee River.
A Memorial Visitation will be held in the Hospitality Room at Boyd/-Caratozzolo Funeral Home in Deer Park on July 7, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Prayer Service will take place at 11:30 am.
