Herman W. Hahn, 86, of Deer Park, New York, passed away on July 2, 2026. Born December 9, 1939, Herman lived a life defined by steadfast service, quiet courage, and a devotion to family that never wavered. His presence was a steadying force—honest, loyal, and wise—and the example he set will remain an enduring source of strength and inspiration to all who knew him.
Herman dedicated his life to serving others. He served in the United States Navy and went on to a distinguished career with the New York Police Department, serving the 75th Precinct in Brooklyn, NY. He later continued his work in public service as an investigator for the Suffolk County District Attorney in Hauppauge, NY. Throughout each chapter, he was known for hard work, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility—qualities that earned trust and respect wherever he served.
Above all, Herman was the center of his family. He was a devoted husband to Louise for 66 years, sharing with her an enduring love that many people never have the privilege to experience. He made her feel loved beyond measure, and he extended that same compassion and care to the entire family. He was the father of Deborah and her husband Richard and Louise. He was the proud grandfather of his beautiful granddaughter Katrina and her husband Tyler, Jacqueline, and Michael, and step-grandfather to Andy, Matt, and Chris. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren. The happiest times were spent surrounded by extended family, and he especially cherished time with nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Herman also built meaningful bonds beyond the home. Special connections were formed with his Jujutsu students; as an 8th degree black belt, he led with discipline, patience, and an encouraging spirit that lifted others. He enjoyed numerous vacations and pleasurable weekends in Atlantic City, embracing life’s moments of rest and joy with gratitude.
A powerful example of what a leader should be in all aspects of life, Herman belonged to the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite, and he attended Catholic Church regularly with his family. His life was prosperous and full of adventure, and he embraced every blessing with remarkable spirit and energy—an influence felt by anyone fortunate enough to meet him.
Herman will be missed every day, but especially at Christmas, on birthdays, and in every moment when something good happens—times when loved ones will instinctively want to share the news with him. There will be no one else like him; he created a life truly one of a kind, and he proved to be among the strongest, bravest, and most courageous those closest to him had ever known. He will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Visitation will be held at Boyd-Caratozzolo Funeral Home, TOWNE CHAPEL, on July 10, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 455 Hunter Ave, West Islip, New York, on July 11, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:15 am.
