It is not too often that one enters our life that thru kindness and a genuine love for people has a lasting effect on the rest of us. John Brancaccio was one of those individuals. He was born in Queens, N.Y. the son of the late Hubert Brancaccio and Mary La Barbera Brancaccio. He and his late sister Antoinette were educated in the New York school system where he attended Joh Adams High Scholl and lettered in track as a sprinter with many first place wins to show for it. He then went on to New York University where he got a Masters degree in accounting but decided that engineering was more to his liking. He went onto Cornell University but after two years was drafted into the Army. John did his two stint with US Army and after being honorably discharged returned to Cornell. At Cornell he completed a five year engineering program that resulted in a Mechanical Engineering degree. He holds a licensed Professional Engineering Certificate from the State of New York. He worked for Western Electrical which eventually became AT$T for the majority of his career. John as an avid reader of health, nutrition and medical articles. He practiced what he preached and could do ninety minutes on a treadmill almost to his death. In his fifties he was still playing tennis avidly and went to learn to ski, became a ski instructor and was downhill racing with many wins to show for it. H could and would genuinely talk on literally and any subject with knowledge and ease and everyone enjoyed such conversations. His memory was incredible and he could quote events happening years ago almost to the days of the week. His generosity and concern for people brought him to St Francis Hospital in Roslyn where The John Brancaccio Heart Valve Center was established to carry on his legacy. He also has established a chair in Engineering at Cornell as well as a scholarship in his sisters Antoinette’s name. He leaves behind his loving cousins Dr. Violet Drexler (Florida), Jean (Frank) Valenzisi, Frank (Ann) Branca (all of New York.), Ross (Pam) Tantillo (Florida), Joseph (Joyce) Pedone, Dr. Rosario (Carmel) La Barbera, Richard (Carol)Tantillo, Frances (Joseph) Giammarella, Roy (Janice) La Barbera (all of New Jersey).
