John Joseph Fleming, of West Islip, New York, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his cherished family. Born on July 31, 1945, and raised in North Babylon, New York, John was the eldest of six children and built a life rooted in faith, family, loyalty, kindness, and quiet strength. A gifted athlete, John excelled in sports during his years at North Babylon High School. He later proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before earning his business degree from Adelphi University. John went on to enjoy a long and successful career in facilities management, holding positions with Long Island Trust, NEC Corporation, Nortel Networks, and Periphonics Corporation. Throughout his professional life, he was admired for his dedication, professionalism, integrity, and strong work ethic.
John was the beloved husband of Marilyn Fleming (née Boyle) for 54 wonderful years. Their love story began when they were introduced on a blind date at Marilyn’s parents’ 25th anniversary party by Marilyn’s sister, Carol. From that moment on, their bond only deepened. Together, John and Marilyn built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, unwavering devotion, and enduring faith.
A devoted Catholic, John and Marilyn were faithful parishioners of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church in Deer Park, New York, for more than 60 years. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life and served as a strong foundation for his family. John lived his values through quiet generosity, humility, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. John was a proud and loving father to Stacey Miller (Michael), Heather Mileti, Tara Sheridan, and Erin Keegan (Donald). He treasured the special traditions he shared with his daughters, from Friday evenings at Friendly’s and family movie nights to summer trips to the Jones Beach Boardwalk for shuffleboard, miniature golf, and ice cream. Nothing brought John greater joy than being “Papa” to his twelve cherished grandchildren: Lily Grace, Michael Jr., Seamus, Declan, and Eamon Miller; Sean and Madison Mileti; Caitlin, Aidan, and Liam Sheridan; and Ella and Nolan Keegan. He delighted in every moment spent with them and took immense pride in their lives and accomplishments. Whether attending sporting events, dance recitals, or school functions, John was always there to support them, even when physical challenges made doing so difficult.
John also took tremendous pride in his home and yard, devoting countless hours to creating immaculate landscaping, vibrant gardens, and memorable Christmas light displays that reflected both his care and creativity. He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and relished attending the many St. Patrick’s Day parades held across Long Island every spring.
John was predeceased by his parents, James and Anne Fleming of North Babylon, New York, as well as his siblings Matt, Mark, and Maureen. He is survived by his younger brothers, Chris and Colin. He was also the beloved brother-in-law of Joanne Kalb, Carol Toscano, and Thomas Boyle, and a loving uncle and father figure to many nieces and nephews.
John will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to his family, his deep faith, his gentle spirit, and the quiet strength and warmth he brought to everyone around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, family, and treasured memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
