Johnny Leon Thacker, age 69 from Wyandanch, NY was called to heaven on Friday, September 1st, 2023. He was born on January 1st, 1954, and was the son of Mother, Pauline Davis Thacker and Father, Johnnie Thacker, who both proceeded Johnny Leon in death.
John graduated from Wyandanch High School in 1972. He then attended Dayton University, in Ohio, where he received a bachelor’s degree in communications in 1976. He worked for Bregg Data Corporation in Hauppauge NY, as a Check print Operator for over 20 years. In 1982, he worked for Wyandanch Public school as substitute teacher during the longest teacher strike in school history. He loved the students and cherished helping them learn to become better students. John loved interior decorating and found a job with Abraham and Strauss (A&S Department Stores), where he worked in sales for over 10 years. His final career was working at Estee Lauder as an IT support specialist for over 20+ years.
John was a long-standing member of his community in Wyandanch NY where he attended Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as a youth group leader, choir director, scripture reader, and a church council board during the years of 1980 through 1988. He continued to attend services throughout the years.
John aka “Le” and “Uncle Le” is best known for his amazing cakes and outstanding cooking skills. His highly demanded cakes led him to launch his Self-owned business, known as “BABYCAKES.” Anyone who experienced the quality and artistry of his delicious cakes could feel the love, joy, and time he put into baking and decorating with each bite. John baked hundreds of cakes over the years for holidays, weddings, birthdays, and various special occasions when requested.
John was also infamous for his entertainment impersonations. With the stage name of “TJ Smoke,” he won numerous awards, appearing at various shows, benefits, and charitable organizations. His dynamic performances always “Wowed” the crowds with rounds of applause, encouraging encores and standing ovations.
John had a warm and jubilant spirit, and he loved the Lord. His magnetic energy truly made people laugh and smile. He loved his family and friends and always enjoyed sharing great times with everyone. His infectious smile and sincere demeanor will always be remembered along with his true caring nature, and heartfelt presence. John loved listening to music, especially his favorite artist, Diana Ross. He also found genuine joy in dancing, singing, dressing up to the Max, and decorating his home during Christmas time. John always wanted to help others and rarely wanted to accept help. He gave freely and joyfully.
John leaves behind many who mourn his death, to include 3 brothers Nathan Lewis (Linda) of Clarksville TN, David Lawrence (Monica) of Centereach NY, Andrew Lester (Yvonne) of Gastonia, North Carolina, 2 sisters Cynthia Leanna Marie McKenzie (Ron) of Weston, Florida, and Sharon Lorraine Janet Tooson (Darren) of Dacula, GA, 5 nieces Natasha, Alexis, Harmony, Faith and Emily, 2 Nephews, Nathan Jr. and Kyle, 1 grandnephew Nathan 3rd, and 1 grandniece Mariah, 1 deceased nephew Willie , and a host of family and friends.
We remember him always for his loving and joyful spirit.
