Jean-de-Nantes in Haiti to Surfine Mondesir and Rachel Toussaint. Although she merely had a
third grade education, Theonie never allowed that to prevent her from learning vast trades and
being an entrepreneur in her own right.
Theonie’s life was marked by her love and devotion to people-- this was illustrated by the
countless she helped to attend school, feeding loved ones in her community, and providing
tangibly for those in need. She befriended many, and generously shared with all. There are
several things that Theonie prided herself in; one being her rich Haitian culture; another being
her sincere love for the Lord, and faithfully serving as a member of the Haitian community at
Olmm Church for over twenty-five years.
To join her family, Theonie came to America in 1994. Later that year, she was diagnosed
with Cervical Cancer and continued treatment until 1995. Miraculously, she remained in
remission for twenty five years. But sadly, between 2019 and 2020, the cancer returned. In
conjunction with other health issues, Theonie succumbed to them on August 1st, 2020.
Theonie is preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings. Theonie is survived
by her only daughter: Yolene; her two grandchildren, Pascal and Kathia Fanyole; and her five
great-grandchildren: Tyler Emmanuel, Maya Pascale, Micaella Stutchie, Kristia Rose and
Rocky Lloyd. She is also survived by her charismatic son in-law, Joseph Frantz; her
granddaughter’s husband, Christopher Andrew; along with her nieces: Lucita Laroche Merger,
Christina Martin, and Marjorie Mondesir, to name a few. She also leaves behind many dear
friends, family and people whose hearts she has influenced, especially her best friend, who she
long considered her adopted daughter: Marie Dieujuste.
To a beautiful, gentle, and brilliant woman, who graciously answered to many names:
Theonie, Mommy Theo, Mom, Granma, GG-- thank you for the indelible impact you made on
all of our lives. You will be missed greatly by us all. You were loved then; you are loved still;
you will be loved always.
