Arthur Holm Schaedtler (89) of Boca Raton, FL & East Islip, NY entered into eternal rest on Thursday September 14, 2023 at his Florida home with his loved ones at his side. Artie was greeted at the gates of heaven by his loving wife Dorothy (Henshaw) Schaedtler & sons Richard A. Schaedtler & Stephen M. Schaedtler.
He is survived by his loving & caring daughter Carol Ann Selkis and son-in-law Tom Selkis (his golf buddy and third son) of Loudonville, NY. He is also survived by his four beloved grandchildren-Ryan T. J. S. Selkis (Caitlin) of MD, Hali R. Walsh (Ian) of VA, Jarod R. Schaedtler of FL and Andrew H. Schaedtler of WI. 4 beautiful great grandchildren also survive him as joys of his life-Rhett, Nathanael, Graham & Meredith of MD.
Art was born on Long Island (New York) April 14, 1934 to his late parents Udo D. Schaedtler & Magda B. (Suagn) Schaedtler. He was also predeceased by his 2 brothers Harold & Walter Schaedtler.
Artie was a hard-working man all his life. Early on Artie worked as a mechanic. He was appointed to Kings Point (U.S. Merchant Marine Academy) but decided to start a family and went on to work at Welding Engineering. This prompted his interest in the swimming pool business and eventually he began his own successful business-“Custom Swimming Pool Service” servicing Long Island, NJ, CT and upstate NY. He treated his “crew” of employees like his own children and many remained in the “Chief’s” life as loyal friends to the end.
Artie had a special interest in the stock market and (to the sometimes chagrin of his family) had the tv tuned to the investment channel nearly 24 hours a day. Art was an avid boater and fisherman and as he got older he developed a passion for golf. He and Dorothy loved to travel to islands and throughout the US and Europe, often with dear friends.
Art is a former board member and Commodore of Boca Bayou Yacht Club where he was instrumental in planning many social events.
Art was a proud German American. He also loved landscaping his home on Long Island. Many parties centered around the pool he built in his yard and his door was always opened to family and friends dropping in. Art was a loyal friend and a dedicated family man who took care of all whenever they had a need. Many close friends and family survive him and hold memories dear.
A mass of Christian Burial for Arthur will be held Monday, September 18, 2023 at 9:30 AM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 380 S. Federal Hwy, Deerfield Beach, FL 33441. Following the mass of christian burial will be a graveside service at 11:00 AM at Boca Raton Mausoleum, 451 SW 4th Avenue, Boca Raton, FL 33432.
