

Cleatus R. Cagle, a cherished resident of Deerfield Beach, Florida, passed away on October 3, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on August 1, 1935, in Henderson County, Tennessee, and grew up in Alamo, Tennessee. Cleatus was a fun-loving and hard-working individual whose strength and dedication left a lasting impact on those around him.
He was the beloved son of Ray and Norine Cagle, who predeceased him. Cleatus was awarded a football scholarship and earned a Bachelor's degree from Murray State and a Master's degree from Florida Atlantic University. His career was marked by his commitment to education, serving as a teacher at Deerfield Beach Elementary, Deerfield Beach Junior High, and Deerfield Beach High School. In leadership he served as an administrator at Coconut Creek High School. A member of his family taught at Deerfield Beach Elementary for five decades.
Cleatus was deeply involved in his community, contributing to the First Baptist Church of Deerfield Beach, the Deerfield Beach Historical Society, and the Gateway Food Pantry. He was remembered as the glue of his community, bringing everyone together and touching many lives through education and coaching. Cleatus also had a fond love of animals, with a particular love for dogs.
In his personal life, Cleatus met and married Mary Martha (Street) Cagle in 1957 at Murray State College, who predeceased him in 1999. He is survived by his children, Chris Cagle and Chuck & Lisa Cagle, and his grandchildren, Conner Cagle and Cameron Cagle. He later married Bonnie Kinghorn in 2011. He also leaves behind , Scott (Suzanne) Kinghorn and Holly Hummell Gorman, Caysun Kinghorn and Paton Hummell. Cleatus was predeceased by his siblings, Carol Jean Hill, Joe Cagle, and Raymond Cagle, and is fondly remembered by step sister Jan (Coan) Thomas and several nieces and nephews.
Cleatus was a church deacon and elder, and he enjoyed attending athletic events, especially Friday night football games. He was a former high school and junior high football coach and found joy in simple pleasures like visiting Cracker Barrel and doing yard work.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 W Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33064 at 1:30 PM. Immediately following the funeral a private burial, family only, will occur at Deerfield City Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held Galuppi's, 1103 N Federal Hwy, Pompano Beach, FL 33062 starting at 4:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to the Deerfield Beach Historical Society. Cleatus legacy will be remembered as one of unity, education, and community involvement and will be deeply missed by all.
