The combination of her care for others, sense of humor, sharp intellect, and memberships in a wide variety of organizations contributed to Dorothy being a truly remarkable human being who loved life and lifting others up.
The late Alex Zasadzinski and Lottie Helen Sienko were the parents of Dorothy, who was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1933, and eventually settled in Deerfield Beach, Florida in 1969.
The time Dorothy spent in the beautiful, natural, and historically rich area of Deerfield was an experience she deeply cherished and when given the opportunity to move elsewhere was known to say, “I am never leaving Deerfield!”
In addition to achieving academic accolades and graduating at the age of 16 from Murray F. Tuley High School in Chicago, she actively participated in extracurricular activities including horseback riding, synchronized swimming, and as a stage singer entertaining troops for the USO (United Services Organization).
Dorothy pursued a degree from Broward Community College while raising four children and was the first person in her family to go to college.
After successfully completing her educational pursuits, Dorothy embarked upon her professional journey as a Real Estate Broker, a Delray Beach city employee and ultimately became the City Clerk of Sunrise, Florida from where she retired in 1998 after 17 years. In her quest to help others throughout her life, she was a notary, an ordained minister, a reiki master, and a hypnotherapist.
Her love for animals was profound, especially for dogs. She harbored a deep passion for the rescuing of older “senior” dogs and had dozens of dogs throughout her life; from her first rescue dog Bambi to her most recent dog Lassy. She loved to cultivate Bonsai which she nurtured in self-designed potting hut. She was actively engaged in numerous charitable endeavors and volunteer activities and was nominated for the volunteer of the year award.
Some of the organizations to which she belonged and contributed to include: The Catholic Church: St Ambrose and our Lady of Mercy, the First United Presbyterian Church of Lighthouse Point, the American Legion, Women of the Moose Lodge, The Florida Association of Realtors, International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Broward County Municipal Clerks Association, Deerfield Beach Chamber of Commerce, Deerfield Beach Library, the Deerfield Beach Women's Club (GFWC), N.E Focal Point Senior Center, Florida Sheriffs Association,Toastmasters, TOPS, Zonta, Sponsor a Soldier (Iraq War 2003), Amnesty International, and the Deerfield Beach Historical Society where she proudly polished the silver at the historic Butler House in Deerfield.
Maintaining a sharp and active mind was a priority for her, which she achieved through many activities that included a deep love for reading, writing, traveling, enjoying nature, and visiting museums. With a sense of adventure she enjoyed learning new things including taking Spanish classes and flying lessons. At home she enjoyed crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She was an accomplished artist and photographer who was drawn to painting nature and showed her work at a Morikami Japanese Museum group show at one point. Dorothy loved social gatherings, especially parties and always dressed to impress in a style uniquely her own. She was invariably the one who sported a wide smile as she ensured all were having fun.
It is by her thoughtful nature, selfless acts, and generous spirit, that she will always be remembered.
The passing of Dorothy is mourned by those left behind, but she is now reunited with her other family, especially her mother Lottie, her sister Alice, and dear friend Bonnie. She is survived by her children Lawrence Allen Dunn, Julie Susanne Dunn, Timothy Kenneth Dunn, Terrence Henry Dunn, and daughter-in-law, Ivana Dunn, her grandchildren Jon Wesley Bellora, SeanPatrick Bellora, and Mary Katherine Bellora. Nieces Lora, Victoria, Lorraine, and Pamela
