I worked with Hector for several years at the JFK up until his retirement. I have lots of stories. As part of my job, I would sit down every fall with each teacher to talk about their students. We tried to spend a few minutes on each student but Hector could easily spend a whole hour talking about any of his student that I mentioned. He would pull out their class work and show me where their strengths were and where the struggled. He was so invested in their academic and personal growth. Another time I needed some help editing a letter to families I had written in Spanish. Other staff sent me to Mr. Soto. I was hoping that he would take it and correct my grammar and mechanics, but instead he sat down and walked me through every error explaining why it needed to be changed. He was always teaching in every opportunity! He had a huge influence and will be dearly missed.
