

John H Bonasera, 78, passed in peace on Tuesday, January 17, 2018 in his Deerfield Beach home. Preceded by his loving wife, Andrea (Hammond) of 41 years. He was born in Medford, Massachusetts to the late Tina (Defrancesco) and Salvatore (Sam) Bonasera on July 6, 1939. John graduated from Medford Vocational High School in 1957. He served as a Sergeant for the US Marine Corps and then dedicated the rest of his career as a Captain for the Medford Fire Department. He was the patriarch of a large family that he has always been very proud of. He is survived by his four daughters, Dana (Bonasera) Gobbi, Patti Bonasera and her husband Tracy Shidlow, Melissa Bonasera, and Christina (Bonasera) Almeida; the true loves of his life, his grandchildren, Tayla Gobbi, Ally Almeida and Jack Almeida; and great-grandson Luca Zaferacopoulos; his sisters Marie (Bonasera) Courtney and her husband Tom, Christine (Bonasera) Gregoire; his brother, Henry Bonasera and his wife, Eileen; his sister-in-law, Karen Hammond-Puleo and her husband, Paul; and his amazing nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews who he loved and cared for like the true patriarch that he was. He enjoyed late night talks with friends and family, golfing, watching baseball, equally enthusiastic about watching the Red Sox play as he was about watching his Jack playing rec ball. His loss is felt by all that loved him. Visitation will be held at Kraeer-Becker Funeral Home, 217 E Hillsboro Blvd, Deerfield Beach on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 4pm to 8pm. There will be a memorial mass at Our Lady of Mercy, 5201 N Military Trail, Deerfield Beach on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10am. There will also be a memorial service in Medford, Massachusetts this summer with a date to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
