Joseph "Joe" Osborne

Joseph “Joe” Osborne, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, musician, coach, entrepreneur, and community leader, passed away after a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. Throughout his life, Joe was known for his generous spirit, remarkable accomplishments, passion for music and sports, and unwavering love for his family.

Joe was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Gertrude “Gert” Muhe and Anthony “Tony” Timinsks. He was raised in Brewerytown, Philadelphia, where he developed an early love for baseball and sports. He was a beloved brother to the late Dorothy Cassee and the late Trudy Devine, as well as Duanne Osborne, Wally Osborne, Rose Colli, Kathy Melrose, Pat Vogwill, and the late Michael Osborne.

In 1964, Joe married the love of his life, Barbara Osborne (Quinn). Together, they built a loving family and shared more than six decades of memories, adventures, and devotion.

Joe was the proud father of Joseph Osborne, his wife Carey, and the late James Osborne. He was a devoted Pop to Joey Osborne, Taylor Osborne, and Morgan Osborne, and a loving step-grandfather to Harley Purre and Brooke Purre. His greatest accomplishment in life was not found in his many professional achievements, but in the love and dedication he gave to his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a cherished grandfather whose presence will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

In 1976, the Osborne family moved from Philadelphia to Pompano Beach, Florida, where Joe became deeply involved in his community and continued to make a lasting impact on the lives of others.

Joe was a legendary youth football coach in South Pompano and with the Pompano Eagles. In 1980, he founded the Pompano Eagles football program, which has continued to serve generations of young athletes for approximately 45 years. Through coaching, Joe taught far more than the game of football. He taught discipline, teamwork, perseverance, confidence, and the importance of believing in oneself. The lives he touched through the program remain a lasting part of his legacy.

Joe's love of music was equally profound. Known affectionately as “Joey Lord,” he was the lead singer of Joey Lord and The Soultastics, a group that played an important role in Philadelphia's vibrant music scene during the 1960s. Joe also had the opportunity to sing alongside Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and other influential musicians who helped shape the legendary Sound of Philadelphia during the 1960s and 1970s. Music was more than a talent for Joe—it was his passion and a central part of who he was.

He was truly the heart and soul of The Soultastics.

Joe was also a passionate sports fan. He loved football and baseball and proudly supported his Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies. He also had a deep appreciation for horse racing and was part owner of several thoroughbred racehorses. He enjoyed spending weekend afternoons at the track or at The Irishmen, surrounded by friends, telling stories, sharing laughs, and simply enjoying life.

Professionally, Joe was a successful entrepreneur and innovator. He was self-employed and owned NetComp Communications Group for approximately 30 years. Under his leadership, NetComp became a nationally recognized Solutions Provider for AT&T.

Joe's accomplishments in technology were remarkable. He was the proud holder of several United States patents involving network imaging and JPEG technology. His innovative work was adopted by NASA and utilized on some of the early Space Shuttle missions to transmit imaging and data back to Earth. His contributions to technology stand as a testament to his creativity, intelligence, determination, and pioneering spirit.

Yet, despite all of his professional accomplishments, musical achievements, coaching success, and lifelong passions, Joe considered his family to be his greatest accomplishment.

Joe fought cancer with extraordinary courage for two and a half years. His strength, determination, and spirit throughout his battle were an inspiration to all who knew him. Though his fight has come to an end, the spirit with which he lived will never be forgotten.

Joe leaves behind a legacy of love, music, family, friendship, mentorship, innovation, and service to his community. His stories will continue to be told, his music will continue to be remembered, and the countless lives he touched will forever carry a part of him forward.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Joe's memory.

Memorial Mass

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 370 SW 3rd Street, Boca Raton, Florida 33432.

A Celebration of Life will immediately follow the Mass at 468 E. Alexander Palm Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33432.

Joe will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by his family, friends, former players, fellow musicians, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
