I met Nora through my good friend,  Liz Barnes, whose mom Terry was good friends with Nora. Over the last several years, I visited in her home and felt like I had known her all my life. She was a lovely lady and so gracious. Whenever I would come down to Florida, I would stop by to visit and check on her. The last time I came down, I went by the house but got no answer. It was a shock to find out that she had passed and we didn't know. It was not for lack of trying. I'm so sorry I did not get a chance to say Goodbye, but I know that I will see her again and be able to get that hug.

Happy Birthday to a beautiful soul. I miss you so much. I have not heard anything regarding about a service or celebration of life. I'm sad, but I still talk to you and mom (Terri) often. Everyone still talks about our visits!

Graduation with Nora nd Leo (Patricia Ybars)

I met Nora Tejeiro (and Leo Tejeiro) when I was ten years old. I lived across the street from them in Deerfield Beach. She would sneak a few caramels to me, while she tended to her garden. They became Aunt Nora and Uncle Leo. She shared stories about Ireland, her family, and her adventures in New York City (she loved that city).   By fifteen I was working at Leo’s Salty Seas. Nora taught me every facet of the restaurant business, while also teaching me about work-ethic. Around that same time, my family and I lost our home, and Nora rented the little pink house that she owned to us. Some of the happiest memories of my life were of Nora and I laughing while dancing in the kitchen of Leo’s Salty Seas with Smitty and Leo. She became one of the most important people in my life. She was there when I got my first car. She was there at my graduation. She was family in all ways. Our drive to and from Gainesville during Leo’s surgery was when one where we truly bonded. Leo passed away shortly after. The Christmas lights display were still put up, the garden was tended to, the day-to-day responsibilities were carried out by her; she taught me the lesson of perseverance. Nora was there with words of wisdom after the loss of my father, mother, and sister. Nora and I were both diagnosed with tumors at around the same time, we did our best to keep each other’s spirits up. Through daily conversations, home-cooked meals, and the occasional outing to the Pompano Pier, we managed to put aside our illnesses for a bit and just reminisce about the good old days. 

Nora Tejeiro should be remembered as strong, generous, and courageous. 

I was not able to properly say goodbye to her, but I will always remember her, most importantly, I will always love her. 

In my prayers, I whisper my profound gratitude to having known her. Rest In Peace dear Nora, you have earned the repose.
