Born in Marion, VA to Lewis and Dorothy Davidson, Roger spent most of his childhood in Pulaski, VA where his love of baseball was nurtured. As a youth, he excelled in the sport and went on to play at various levels from there. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1968 and furthered his education and baseball career. At Hiwassee College, Madisonville, TN 1970 (AA), Birmingham-Southern, Birmingham, AL 1973 (BS), Univ. of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN 1980 (MS).
A highlight of his time in Pulaski, he played for the Pulaski Phillies, with manager, Dallas Green.
His long career included teaching and baseball/football coaching jobs at Gardendale HS, AL 1973-1976, Hiwassee College 1976-1978, Pascagoula HS, MS 1978-1979, Christiansburg HS, VA 1979-1987. He moved to South Florida in 1988 and continued to teach/coach at Deerfield Beach HS and Coconut Creek HS.
Baseball shaped his life lessons and his humorous “Rogerisms” touched many he met along the way. He loved all his players as his sons.
He leaves behind his wife-Jeanie, mother-Dorothy (Ft. Pierce), son-Bradley and family (Boynton Beach), brother-Allen (NC), niece-Emily and family (NC), and other family throughout the South.
