RIP Mr. Phillips....
I will miss you so much. Not only were you my favorite fourth grade teacher but you were one of my best friends. You showed me how to experience joy by honoring the little things in life...having your coffee and donut every morning, playing the slot machines, betting on the horses and always eating desert.
You were an excellent teacher and a true friend, always. Opening day of the track will never be the same. Rest easy my friend and I will see you when I get there.

I will miss Russ so much. He was a rock. Always good for a laugh. Always pleasant. Always looking out for others. Russ and Ed looked after my mother, Janice, like family.

Russ loved, loved, loved Christmas. So many great ornaments, displays, trees, and a special historical Coca Cola Santa collection. It must have taken months to set up. The home was extra full of joy for Christmas.

So many fond memories!

Oh Mr. Phillips, where do I begin? Not only were you the greatest teacher, but you also were the most stylish with your different colored ties everyday! You truly were the one who brought out my passion for writing. I never knew how much I loved writing until I had you as a teacher, and for that, I can’t thank you enough.

I will never forget the moment after you told me I scored an almost perfect score on my “Florida Writes” exam... you said “come back to me when you have a job as a writer!” Well, I can proudly say I just started a new job and have taken my two passions, animals and writing, and turned them into a career. I know you’d be proud :)

Russ, you made a difference in so many lives, not only as a friend but also as a teacher. You were my friend and my daughter's teacher. I remember walking in your room and seeing a couch. I knew this was the perfect fit. Your classroom felt like a home and that is why your students loved you. You were the one that created the love of writing for Marissa. When you received her writing score you said, "Come and see me when she is a writer!" Well, Russ, she just began a new job last week and she is writing!!! You would be so proud of her. You touched so many lives and will always be remembered.

Russ, you were such an amazing educator. You made me a better Principal. Children were lucky to be in your classroom. You were always creative and inspiring. I am so lucky to have worked with you. We laughed and cried together. Thank you for being the sounding board for me and many others at Riverglades. You are truly missed!

I'm so saddened by this news. This man worked across the hall from me at Riverglades. He helped me out so many times by sharing and making me laugh. He had the best sense of humor and was an amazing teacher. He will be missed. Rest in peace Russ. My condolences to you Ed. You're in my thoughts and prayers.
