Jane, I just found out. I am so sorry about Sam. , Sam was 11 years older than I both born on May 18th and as you know lived across the street. It's hard to believe that we are all getting to an age that we are hear today and gone tomorrow. Again , I am sorry for your loss .

Janie & family - There are no words right now. Sam was humor, humility & bigger than life and, not to mention, talented with the artist's brush. We will have his colorful paintings to enjoy and that is our good fortune.

Janie our heart breaks for your loss.
Sam was beloved by everyone and we consider ourselves fortunate to have known him and counted him as a friend. I do not think any other person so afflicted could have faced his enemy with such bravery, heart, and smiles. He is no ordinary hero, but one who has earned a hallowed place. We will miss him but we are oh so glad to have had him in our lives and as part of our memories. With deepest sympathy and love, Mary and Ike

My heart goes out to your and your family at this sad time. Sam was one of the nicest people I ever had the privilege to meet. He was always smiling and seemed so very happy all the time. He cared about people and it showed in his actions. I loved the time I spent with him at Yeager Airport. He was always asking questions and I loved that. So many people are afraid to ask and he was never intimiated. He was just bigger than life. I know that he loved you and his family. He always spoke so lovingly of you. You were lucky that you got to celebrate your 50th wedding anniversary together, because I didn't get to with my late husband. Your happy memories will sustain you in the days to come. Hope to see you sometime in the future.

Martha and I will deeply miss Sam. Evertyone who knew him loved him.
His career was a series of major accomplishments starting with his becoming an eagle scout. That fact I didn't know but I do know he was a great guy and he and Jane were fun to be around.

Words fail me Jane, we are sorry for your loss.

Marty and I are so sorry to learn that Sam lost his brave battle with cancer. I have so many fond memories of Sam at Virginia Tech as well as the both of you in more recent years. Visiting with you two in Maryland, in Blacksburg, and here in Florida will always be great memories. We will certainly miss him. Our prayers are for you and your family. We will be thinking of you all in this difficult time.
Our sincere condolences,
John and Marty Neal

Jane, Julie & Jill, my prayers are with you in this time of mourning. Sam was a good man and treated everyone with respect. I will miss his visits to the bank and seeing him at the golf course. What a great sense of humor he maintained through all of his medical issues, never feeling sorry for himself. Amazing. Charleston has lost a leader and friend.
