Alfred Frank Karner
November 16, 1921 – November 7, 2017
Alfred Frank Karner (95) departed this earth and triumphantly entered Heaven on 7 November 2017, joining his beloved wife Selma. Alfred lovingly known as “Al”, was born near Coyle, OK, the eldest of 5 sons born to Frank and Esther Karner. Alfred possessed a wide variety of skills and hobbies, including an active interest in early day radio. In his youth, he loved to listen to the various crystal sets that he built. As tube-type radio evolved, he expanded his hobby to include television building and servicing. Al worked in the aircraft industry in California prior to WWII. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during WWII in the China-Burma-IndiaTheatre. Returning from WWII, Al found employment at Tinker Air Force Base, where he served in numerous aircraft electrician and supervisory roles until his retirement in 1984. Al married Miss Selma Fruendt in 1951. This union was blest with two children, Carl Karner and Jane (Karner) Engebretson. Al was a dedicated member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Midwest City, where he faithfully served his Savior in a wide variety of offices and assignments. Those who knew Al knew him to be a kind, even-tempered gentleman who genuinely loved people. During their married years, he and Selma traveled extensively throughout the US. Al’s lifelong interests were golfing and gardening. He earned certification as Master Gardener from OSU, and he participated annually in Good Shepherd Lutheran School’s golf tournament. Alfred is survived by son Carl Karner and wife Karen, Oklahoma City, OK, and daughter Jane Engebretson and husband Gary, Plano, TX, grandchildren Amber Hasbrook and husband Clayton, Edmond, OK, Tyler Engebretson and wife Ashley, Dallas, TX, Michael Karner, Tulsa, OK, and Jennifer Karner, Oklahoma City, OK. Uncle Al was a humble, unpretentious man who loved his Lord & Saviour, Jesus Christ. I'm comforted by the fact that he is in the great cloud of witnesses...awaiting my arrival. Hebrews 12:1-2
