After a long illness, Barbara Jane “Corky” Gibson passed in the late evening of December 22, 2016 in Midwest City. She was surrounded by family and friends during her final hours. Barbara was the second of three daughters born to William and Imogene (Potts) Farley, on March 12, 1941 in Idabel, OK. She married John Gibson on November 3, 1961, in Norman, OK, making their home on the outskirts of Choctaw, OK, where they both lived until their deaths. John and Barbara had two children: Ben, in 1963, and Carla, in 1968.
Barbara spent the years when her children were young caring for them and John, and then went back to school to care professionally for others, achieving her LPN license in 1975, and her Associates Degree – Nursing in 1982. She worked for 27 years at St. Anthony’s in OKC and the Renaissance Center in Midwest City, working predominantly in labor/delivery and NICU, and assisting in the births of approximately 10,000 infants, granddaughter, Cheyenne and including her great nephew Howard.
Barbara spent her later years caring for dogs, cats, birds, cows, horses, flower and vegetable gardens, friends and family. She could and would grow and nurture anything on her land, and it was quipped often, ‘skinny dogs end up fat at Grandma’s’ by her granddaughter, Ember. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, William and Imogene Farley, husband John Gibson, stepson John Gibson, Jr., and nephew Richard Gentry. She will continue to live in the hearts of many, including her older sister, Bee Carnagua and husband Forest of Niceville, FL; younger sister Kay Gentry, of Midwest City; son Ben and wife Robin of Choctaw; daughter Carla Tubby and husband Kevin, of Choctaw; niece Ronda Hennessy and husband Michael of Fort Walton Beach, FL; nephew PF Gentry, of Midwest City; grandchildren Amanda Mathes and husband Joshua of OKC; Cheyenne Tubby of Edmond; Ember Tubby of Midwest City; great nephews Howard Hennessey, Patrick Hennessey, and William Hennessey, of Fort Walton Beach, FL; great nieces Elizabeth Gentry and Vanessa Gentry, of Midwest City; and loved ones Wanda Gibson and family, of Moore; Jimmy Gibson and wife Cathy, and family, of Newalla; Gladys and Alexis Atkison, of Choctaw; Cheryl Heath and husband Vernon, and family, of Harrah; and a host of others who have encountered her along the way.
The family would like to extend their warmest thanks to the nurses, doctors, and supporting staff in the critical care unit at Alliance Midwest City Hospital, for their wonderful and compassionate care of Barbara. Viewing will be held on December 27, 2016 from 9am to 8pm at Eisenhour Southeast Chapel, Del City. Services will be held December 28, 2016 at 10am at Eisenhour, with burial at Schwartz Cemetery in SE OKC. Arrangements under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, Del City, Oklahoma.
