Billie Joy Childers, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024, in Yukon, Oklahoma. She was born on September 12, 1930, in Madill, Oklahoma, to the late Robert Lewis Knight and Mary Bell Knight.
Billie's journey in life was not without its challenges, but she faced them all with unwavering strength and determination. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nelda Thompson, her loving husband, James Monroe Childers, her parents, as well as her siblings and all other family members who have gone before her.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Barbara Hasman, Marilyn Pratt, Dorothy Barnett, Betty Holden, Alford Thompson, and Al Thompson. Billie was the matriarch of a large family, spanning over 80 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren. Her presence in their lives was full of love, wisdom, and guidance.
For over 40 years, Billie worked tirelessly as a meat-wrapper, independently supporting her seven children in various Del City grocery stores. Her strong work ethic and dedication were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Billie was an active member of First Southern Baptist Church for over four decades. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she found happiness in taking her sons and other family members to church with her. Her commitment to her faith was unwavering, and her example of devotion will continue to resonate with those who knew her.
Outside of her work and church, Billie had many hobbies and interests for which she had a great talent, including embroidery and sewing. She created beautiful pieces that will be cherished by her family for generations to come. Gardening was one of her hobbies later in life, and she took great pride in tending to plants and nurturing their growth. Above all, Billie's greatest source of joy came from spending time with her family. Whether it was a simple gathering or a grand celebration, having family around her was what she wanted most.
The family invites friends and loved ones to pay their final respects at the funeral service, which will be held on January 26, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home at 5005 Southeast 29th Street in Del City, Oklahoma. There will be a brief graveside gathering afterwards at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City, Oklahoma.
A special message of gratitude goes to some of the dedicated nurses and staff members at Ranchwood Nursing Center who provided years of kindness, love, and care to Miss Billie. Their compassion and kindness made her final years more comfortable, and for those few people we’re forever grateful.
Billie Joy Childers will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, resilience, and faith will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. May she find eternal peace in the loving arms of her heavenly Father.
