Carma Omega Snow (Harvey) entered into eternal rest with Christ her Savior on Wednesday, February 12th at 8:15 am. Carma was born September 1, 1934 in Centrahoma, Coal County, Oklahoma to Alta Margie Harvey (Forrester) and Clarence Fred Harvey.
Carma grew up in Coal County and attended Centrahoma Schools and later Tupelo Schools where she would play Girls Basketball earning the nickname “Skeeter.” It was in elementary school that she learned she was tone deaf after the choir teacher asked her to “stand over there and don’t sing.” Upon graduating from Tupelo High School she moved to Dallas, Texas to attend Business School. She fully expected to be employed as a Secretary or Bookkeeper, but privately longed to become an Airline Stewardess. This was not to be as her grandfather, with a healthy distrust of airplanes, forbade her from pursuing that career field.
Carma was raised by her grandparents following her parents divorce. By every account she had a happy and secure childhood surrounded by the love and care of her grandparents and extended family. She referred to her grandfather as “Daddy” and she would often recount how one day she asked her grandfather “Daddy, is OK if I call you Daddy?” He tenderly answered “Honey, you can call me whatever you want.” This gentle and kind nature would become one of Carma’s defining characteristics.
Carma had met her future husband, Mark Snow, while riding the school bus when they were both in elementary school in Centrahoma. Years later they would reconnect while Mark was serving in the US Army. Carma and Mark would live in Oklahoma, Texas and California at different times and for different stretches of time. Carma was a wife, homemaker and mother who put her family ahead of all other demands. It was while living in California that she took a job at Heinz Cannery working as a Lab Technician with the job of checking ketchup samples for rat and mouse hair! She also worked as a Baby Food taster. Later in life she worked at the Oklahoma City Zoo Gift Shop where her meticulous nature had her running the business after a short time.
Carma loved sports and always made time to see her kids baseball, football, softball and basketball games often serving as an official scorekeeper.. Her love of sports did not end with her children but extended to the OU Sooners and sometimes the OSU Cowboys. She enjoyed the OKC Thunder and Dallas Mavericks. Her favorite baseball team was the Atlanta Braves, but on occasion she would cheer on the Chicago Cubs and/or St Louis Cardinals. Considering it far too boring and monotonous, Carma did not watch Golf.
Carma was a committed Christian who for years taught children's and Youth Sunday School, Vacation Bible School; and brought up her children in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord.” She became a born again follower of Christ after her grandfather, Marvin Forrester, shared the gospel with her and explained that “following Jesus was the most important thing you could do.”
Carma was generous to a fault despite her fixed income. She ensured her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren received gifts on their birthdays and holidays. She lived humbly and loved mightily. She prayed diligently for her family and often reminded them to do the same. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her..
Carma was preceded in death by her grandfather Marvin C. Forrester and grandmother Lillie Etta Forrester, her father Clarence Fred Harvey and mother Alta Margie Thomas her husband Marcus Lee “Mark” Snow Jr and son Terry Lyn Snow, sister Patricia Ebberly and brother Doug Thomas.
