Carol was born on July 28, 1944 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Sylvester and Hershley (Hooks) Royal. She was the oldest of three daughters; her younger sisters are Debra Edwards and Linda Armour. While on vacation in England Carol met Ernest Clinton, a student from Cape Coast, Ghana, and the two of them were inseparable until she returned home. After several telephone calls, he proposed to her and she accepted. The two of them were married in Muskogee, Oklahoma on September 22, 1973. In this union they were blessed with two daughters, Claudia “NaNa-Abbah Dodoowa” (Clinton) Frödin and Chrisson “NaNa-Abbah Samuah” Clinton. Carol has a son-in-law, Mikael Emil Frödin of Linköping, Sweden and was a lovely grandmother to three grandchildren, Skylar Elizabeth Frödin, Emmett Emil Frödin, and Abigail Grace Frödin of Stockholm, Sweden.
Carol graduated from Manuel Training High School in Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1962. After completing her Bachelor of Science degree in 1969 from Northeastern State University, she began her career as a registered medical technologist at Muskogee General Hospital. Later, Carol transferred to the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City where she worked for over 40 years. She also worked at Tinker Air Force Base Hospital for 5 years.
Carol was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend to all. She was a thoughtful person, never forgetting to send a birthday or holiday card to all she knew, especially her three grandchildren. She was always sending her husband to the post office to mail off these big presents for the grandchildren. Sometimes she would send presents that only cost $20 to purchase; however, it would cost $90 to ship and that would always generate disagreements with her (cheap) husband. :)
She was a very strong person who never complained even after she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Even her husband could not understand why she was so calm about the consequences of this devastating disease.
With the love and strong support from her husband, children, family, and all her numerous friends, she fought this disease for 10 years like there was no tomorrow. Carol La Jean Clinton passed away, surrounded by family and friends, in her Oklahoma City home at 11:57 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2016. She is now in perfect peace at rest with the Lord.
