OBITUARY

Charles John Gambitta

October 18, 1927December 7, 2019

Gambitta, Charles John, Age 92, formerly of Oklahoma City, died December 9, 2019, in AdventHealth Hospital, VITAS Unit, Altamonte Springs, FL. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM, January 15, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 1107 Felix Pl, Midwest City, OK. Interment will be at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N. Midwest Blvd., Midwest City, OK. Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM until the time of the mass on Wednesday.

Charles was born October 28, 1927, the son of Antonio Salvatore and Marianna (Cassara) Gambitta. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Marguerite Helena Foley on June 9, 1951, in Oneida, NY. Charles was preceded in death by his wife on December 8, 2003, his parents, a brother, Salvatore Anthony Gambitta, and two sisters Veronica Mary Gambitta Sterpe and Roslyn Mary Gambitta LaBalbo.

Charles worked as an Inventory Manager, Government Defense Logistics, for over 30 years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of Knights of Columbus 4th degree Council 4026, Assembly 2508. He also was a member of St. Neri Catholic Church and the Parkview Neighborhood Watch. For many years he served as president of various bowling leagues.

Charles is survived by the following nieces and nephews: Richard Michael LaBalbo of Duncansville, PA, Frances Ann Sterpe Converse of Vernon, NY, Patricia Ann Sterpe of Oneida, NY, Susan Elizabeth LaBalbo Hiob (and Howard) of Woodbridge, VA, and Joseph Thomas LaBalbo, Jr. (and Elaine) of Oviedo, FL. Charles is survived by three great nephews, Andrew Howard Hiob of Morgantown, WV, Rusty Andrew Sterpe (and Kierstin) of Blossvale, NY, and Mark Joseph LaBalbo (and Anna) of Oviedo, Florida. Charles was blessed with one great, great niece (Elohi), and two great, great nephews, (Camren and Colton).
