Charles Daniel (Charlie, Cuckleburr) Strickland passed from the bounds of this earth to be with his Heavenly Father on September 9th after a long battle with cancer. Charlie fought until the very end, but cancer won the battle.
Charlie was born on June 7th, 1942 in Cape Girardeau Missouri to Ray and Ann Strickland; their third son, he was one of four children. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dale Strickland, his wife Dean (Barrett) Strickland whom he loved dearly, and his daughter Laura Byrd Strickland.
Charlie is survived by his daughter Savannah, son Daniel, both of the home, and Scott of Napierville Illinois; his brother Howard (MaryEllen) Strickland of Jackson Michigan and his sister Mary Carmen (Strickland) (Steve) Mitchell, of Southaven, Mississippi.
Charlie served his country in the United States Army for the period November 1966 to November 1968, which included a tour in Vietnam. Charlie served with distinction and honor.
Charlie grew up on a farm in Southeast Missouri where he was taught and learned the value of work. By the age of 16, Charlie found his true passion, trucking, which followed him throughout his life. Any one who ever knew Charlie, knew immediately that he was a “Trucker.” Charlie loved to joke and never met a stranger: attributes which served him well over the road, usually in a Peterbilt, keeping on, moving on. Up and until his death, Charlie still had a couple old Peterbilts which he just couldn’t part with.
Charlie was a son, brother, father, and a friend to many. He will be missed and long not forgotten. His kindness, and his empathy for others will always remain as a legacy he fully deserved. He will be truly missed!
Visitation will be held at 11am, Saturday, September 12th at the Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home in Del City Oklahoma. Internment will follow at 2pm where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife.
