Christopher Paul Wright (Chris) was born on March 21, 1981, in Midwest City, OK. He grew up in the Mid-Del and Moore area, where he lived most of his life. He recently relocated to Fernanda Beach, FL, where he loved to watch the sunrise over the ocean. He absolutely loved the ‘salt life’ and often spent early mornings on the beach. He passed away November 11, 2014, in Kingsland, GA. As a young child Chris seemed to have an ‘old soul’ and often accompanied his Papa & Granny on family trips to visit older relatives. He also took many trips with his Papa to Harrah, to see “By Golly Bob”, and have ice cream at Mr. Burger. Chris, and his older brother Matt spent many weekends with their Grandma Sue and Pops, out in the country. They loved watching scary movies, and eating grandma’s special breakfasts. Chris attended school at Moore West Middle School, and Westmoore High School where he swam with the Westmoore Swim Team and the Moore Aquatic Club, with his older brother, Matt Wright. The tremendous discipline required in competitive swimming served both Matt and Chris throughout their adult lives. He attended college at OCCC for two years and briefly attended Oklahoma University. Chris was raised attending Del City church of Christ, and considered the members to be his family. His dad baptized him when he was 14 years old. Though Chris’s life choices sometimes pulled him into darkness, he loved the Lord, and loved to serve. He went on mission trips to Mexico, and was completely charmed by the Mexican people and their culture. He learned to understand and somewhat speak the Spanish language from line cooks in some of his working establishments, and he loved to communicate with the Mexican people while on mission trips.
Chris loved his family, especially his son, Christian, of who he was incredibly proud. Though they didn’t share the same love of cooking food, they did share a love of eating food, and one of their favorite things was trying new cuisines, and the spicier the better! Though no one would ever know by looking at Chris’s 125 lb body, his passion was food. He loved to cook, and there is nothing he would not try to prepare. He surprised and delighted his family at most holidays by bringing something new, unusual, and delicious. He worked in every kind of restaurant, from the mom & pop diner to elegant establishments that serve coursed meals. His most recent employer was a high-end restaurant right on the causeway of Amelia Island, Florida, where he prepared fresh caught seafood, which was one of his favorite foods to cook.
Chris adored dogs, especially large dogs. His first precious pet was George (named after his Papa), who was a large Dalmatian mix. Chris was heartbroken when George was stolen from his backyard. While searching for George he stalked the OKC animal shelter where he discovered Pete, a huge Doberman/Shepherd mix. It was love at first sight. Pete will now reside with Chris’s brother, Matt & Lesli Wright, and their three rowdy boys. Chris loved his family more than anything; he knew he was blessed to have close grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He enjoyed our many family gatherings and was well known for his warm hugs and affectionate nature.
Chris worked for the Whiz Kids program at the Del City church of Christ for approximately a year. He would come after a full day of working at the Dell Corporation, and prepare kid-friendly meals for about 100 kids and volunteers. He enjoyed every aspect of this, including preparing the menus and purchasing the necessary food at the best prices he could find. However his favorite part was cooking the food, and seeing the kids line up. His favorite partner in crime was Ms. Annette Parker, who helped prepare and serve the meals, and they shared many private jokes every Tuesday.
Chris is survived by his son, Christian Wright; parents, Paul and Donna Wright; brother and sister-in-law, Matt and Lesli Wright, and their boys, Tyler Reed, Alex Reed and Jaxson Wright; grandparents, Floyd and Sue Dunagan; aunts & uncles, Robbin Wright, Cindy Wright, Bill & Dawn Wright, Darrel Mason, Mike and Vickie (Mason) Walker; Steve and Barbara (Mason) Parker, Roger and Cris (Dunagan) Elder, Dewayne & Judene Dunagan; and approximately 15 cousins. His beloved Papa and Granny, George and Wanda Wright, and his uncle, Chuck Mason, preceded him in death.
Arrangements under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, Del City, Oklahoma.
