Cora Sue Curtis

Cora Sue (Sue) Curtis was born on August 13, 1930 to Willis and Ruth Knight in Yeager, Oklahoma, the second oldest of their six children. She passed away in Edmond, Oklahoma on August 20, 2022. Sue attended Fairview School in Hughes County from grades 1 – 12, graduating in 1948 with six other classmates. She obtained a Nursing Degree from the University of Oklahoma and practiced nursing in local hospitals, and finally in the Mid-Del school district as a school nurse until she retired. She was married to Carl M. Curtis on November 17, 1951, living their life together in Midwest City, Oklahoma.

As a child, she lived on the family farm where she and her siblings did the chores and roamed the fields. Church was a center of her adult life; she attended Midwest City Baptist Church for decades and then Wildwood Church in Norman after her move there in 2017. She would frequently express her gratitude for every day the Lord gave her. Sue’s home displayed her love of gardening and was adorned with decorations for the enjoyment of her children and grandchildren for whom she frequently cared. The grandchildren loved to stay at Grandma’s house. Besides the children, she loved pets of all sorts. Many of her weekends were spent building a family cabin and hosting family gatherings there during the summers. Sue had a kind heart and helped many persons, young and old, get back on their feet through nursing, shelter and her wise, patient counsel.

Sue is survived by her sisters Virginia “Jane” Zillig of Goliad, TX and Betty Owens of Jackson, MI, her son Charles David Curtis of Edmond, OK, her youngest daughter Tammye Ruth Cameron, grandchildren Karlye Cowdin, Kyle Derrick, Christopher Curtis, Darrin Curtis, Timothy Curtis, Jeremiah Harrison, and Sarah Lewis, ten great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl (2004), her brothers Junior and Charles, sister Cherry, daughter Karla and grandson Zachary.
