Daniel R. Haslam, Sr., known to his friends and family as Raymond, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at the age of 81. During his short illness and passing, he was comforted by his wife, Barbara, of 63 years, his three surviving children, Danny, Peggy and husband Bill, Mary and husband Tracy, his grandchildren and his brothers and sisters-in-law. He was blessed with the time and ability to say goodbye to his loved ones and to hear how much he would always be loved and missed.
Unfortunately, Raymond was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Brenda Ruth, on May 28, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Mary Haslam, his brother Jack, and sister Mary Ruth. He spent his remaining years missing them, but cherishing the memories of loving them.
Raymond is survived by his wife Barbara, his older brother Charles and wife Joan, and his younger brothers Bob, his wife Kaye, Don, his wife Susan, Joe, his wife Peggy, and Tom and his wife Mary Lynn. He would want the wives included because he thought of them as more than sisters-in-law; they are family. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Kelsy Draper, Tabytha Jones, Jeffrey Jones, RayAnn Cochran, Danielle Haslam, Allison Sills, Heather Sills and Drexel Denton, ranging in age from twenty-four to fourteen, respectively.
Raymond was born on October 24, 1931, in Winchester, CA, the third of eight children of Milton and Mary Haslam. His mother, Mary, instilled in him a strong faith in Jesus Christ and the ability to lead by good example all his long life. He never wavered in his faith or his love for his wife and family. He was a fine man of few words, but everything he said you listened to and everything he stood for you aspired to be.
Raymond shared his life with his entire family, immediate and extended, during the many, many camping trips and family reunions at Lake Tenkiller beginning in the late 1950s and continuing until this past summer. He taught all of his children and grandchildren how to fish and enjoy boating and the togetherness of doing simple things, like fish fry’s and campfires.
Raymond and Barbara also opened their home and hearts to his brothers growing up when they needed a place to start their new lives in the city away from the family farm in Tussy, whether they were going to college or were newlyweds waiting for their own home. They gave willingly and happily and never expected anything in return. Their generosity was reciprocated ten-fold by everyone they helped because the family is devoted to one another to this day.
A funeral service will be held 3:30p.m., Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Del City Church of Christ with interment to follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery. To leave condolences please visit www.eisenhourfuneral.com.
