Darrel Earl Wyatt, known lovingly to everyone as "Boogie," passed away on May 6, 2026, in Yukon, Oklahoma, after fighting a hard battle with cancer. He was 79 years old. Born on May 15, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Jefferson Brian Wyatt and Genevieve Lorraine Wyatt, Darrel lived a life full of love, laughter, and service to others.
Darrel served proudly in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970, working as a crew chief on B-52 bombers, planes he loved for the rest of his life. After his service, he built a long career with Safeway, working his way up to store manager. He was married to Sharon Wyatt, his "Little Bit," for 52 wonderful years until her passing in 2018.
Darrel never met a stranger. He always had a smile on his face, a whistle on his lips, and a joke ready to share. He played trumpet in high school and carried that spirit of joy everywhere he went. He was famous for his "Why Dance," a little routine he loved to pull on unsuspecting folks, including his hospice nurses Tressa and Amy, right up to the very end. He loved old cars, car shows, his family, and greeting every person he met with warmth and kindness. He never lost his sense of humor or his laugh, even through his toughest days.
Darrel was the best son, brother, husband, father, and papa. He was a man of faith, honor, integrity, responsibility, and forgiveness. He is survived by his sister, Sandra Gale Peters; his four children, LaDora, Fern, and Jeanne; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, his son, Darrel Wyatt, Jr. “Blue”, his parents, and his siblings Jerry Sims and Karen Huggins.
Services will be held on May 13, 2026, at Sunny Lane Cemetery, at SE 29th and Sunny Lane. Viewing will be from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 pm and a lunch afterwards. May be rest in the peace and love he so freely gave to others.
From his daughter, Fern: “I will miss you so very much. I had the privilege of taking care of you after Mom’s passing. I will miss your humor, your jokes, you waking up in the morning whistling and singing, the ‘Why Dance’ you always did at Wal-Mart, Ollie’s, or anywhere else we would go, and our dogs will miss you dearly. Love, one of your daughters, Fern.
