He did his basic training in San Antonio, Texas, and then went to technical school at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Patty Yeager. They had two children, Lisa and Karen. The family traveled with him as he fulfilled his duties with the Air Force. His first assignment was in Charleston, South Carolina. After that, they lived in Dover, Delaware. Then, from 1981 to 1984, he was stationed at Rhein Main Air Force Base, Germany. David obtained an Associate's Degree through the Community College of the Air Force. During his career in the Air Force, he achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He spent the last five years with his family working on the family property in Wannette, riding on his tractor, going through countless chainsaws, renovating a 1920's home for a family haven, while fishing as much as he could. I tried to think of one specific memory to share and as I considered it, I realized there wasn’t exactly a memory that comes to mind but a feeling- warmth. Throughout jr. high and the beginning of high school, I spent many hours at the Goodwin house. And not once did I enter that home without receiving the warmest smile from Dave. Sometimes I’d pop over even when I knew Lisa wasn’t home just to get one of those smiles and the best hug in the neighborhood. My heart is so much heavier knowing that smile isn’t here anymore. But it is so much better off for having seen it so many times. All my love to you Lisa, Karen and Patty.
