Bernadine leaves behind her husband of 17 years, George J. Wiegand, daughter Patricia Oliver of Claremore, OK, sisters Helen Wood, Midwest City, Ruth Priddy, Harrah, Norma Sorenson, Peoria, AZ, and Barbara Dalke, Mansfield, TX, grandsons Christopher Long, his wife Leanne and their children, Colton, Camryn, Dylan, Devan and Caitlyn, Hot Springs, AR, and Matthew Long and his wife Carol, Dallas, TX, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Glen Aynes, brother Walter R. Cassady, and nephews Ronnie Wood and Mark Dalke.
Bernadine graduated from Midwest City High School, married Glen Aynes several months later, and moved to Jones, OK, where she spent most of her life. A giving person throughout her life, over the years she volunteered for everything from Camp Fire Girl troupe leader to Meals on Wheels. She began working full time in 1965 and retired from Lyntone Belts, Inc. in Edmond, where she managed marketing samples. Bernadine’s passion was quilting, and she enjoyed the fellowship of her quilting circle in Harlingen, TX, where she wintered with her husband George, and treasured the ability to combine her quilting talents with those of her best friend, Virginia Johnson of Midwest City. She took extreme pleasure in giving away her many unique and exquisite quilts to family and friends. She collected butterflies and angels, and saved what she called “crispies” – brand new uncirculated currency, which she would often include in birthday cards to her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bernadine was quite the crafter, and could make something useful out of nothing. A child at heart, she was delighted by the company of children, especially that of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. M. Farouk Kanaa and staff, Mercy Hospital oncology staff and everyone at Hospice Quality Care, Inc., for Bernadine’s compassionate care during her illness.
