Her mothering instincts set in at an early age. She was about six, when our house burned and we set on a log while the older people fought the fire. She very often had to watch her smaller brother and sister. Dorothy spent eight years at Butter Milk School. She went to Kendrick high for four years and then came to Oklahoma City to attend business school. Her first job was with Riss Truck Lines. While there, Judy the Elephant was brought in for the OKC Zoo. When the truck line sold, she worked for Western Electric. She retired from Western Electric with a medical retirement. Dorothy took care of her mother and baby sat her niece’s children, Brandi and Duane, and others. Her house was open for any church members and preachers needing a place to stay. She loved to have her friends or brethren come by for dinner and visit. She loved to talk about her faith with anyone and was asked often “what church do you go to”. Her answer was always “the one the Lord built”. Dorothy was a member of the Church of Christ and obeyed the gospel with baptism in the “1940s”. She could be counted on to be at the church every occasion. She still drove her car, and how odd, the car broke down one week before she went to the hospital. Dorothy, you will be missed by all who knew you.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Katherine, and one sister, Emma Katherine Board. Survivors include her brother, H.D. Matheson; nephews, Tony Matheson (Nelie), Ron Matheson (Kim); niece, Sherri Brashears (Randy); great-nephews and nieces, Nathan, Rachel, Brandi, & Randy Duane; great-great niece, Bailey; cousins, Sandra, Mike and Duane and families.
