Ed was born on July 29, 1957 in Oklahoma City to Edward Boyd and JoAnn Summers Stewart. Ed graduated from Del City High School in 1975. A hard worker his entire life, he started out with the OPUBCO as a paper boy during junior high school; as an adult he became district manager, managed a gas station. Ed went on to work for GM in Oklahoma City for 27 years, in a variety of positions that included trainer, webmaster and Recording Secretary for the UAW. Ed also founded and worked his own business, BiggerBytes.com, designing and building computer systems. After the closure of GM, Ed worked as webmaster for CallOkie, and eventually for LifeSpring Home Care and Hospice as Chief Information Officer. Ed was self-taught and an expert in multiple computer technologies.
Ed was an avid aviator, boater, fisherman, water skier, motorcyclist, and football fan. He built remote control aircraft and was an award -winning remote control airplane aerobatics pilot. He loved drinkin’ beer and rock ‘n’roll. He also loved his wife Stephanie Jean Cummisky Stewart. They were married from 1984 until her death in 2008.
Ed is survived by his siblings, Liz Van Dyck of Fort Worth, Karen Vahlberg of Norman, and John D. Stewart of Norman, as well as their spouses and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him. He is also survived by stepchildren Carolyn (Terrell) Scott, Jim (Kim) Clevenger, Stephen (Tiffany)Clevenger, and Lisa (Marvin) Vanderlip, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Stephanie and his parents Boyd and JoAnn Stewart, and granddaughter Nicole Vanderlip.
Much gratitude to Ed’s long-time companion and caretaker Debbie Smith for her constant and selfless work and care for Ed over many years and especially in the last months of his life. We are most thankful for your presence, patience, and love for Ed.
Visitation for Ed will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 from 4-8pm with family present from 6-8pm, at Bill Eisenhour at Sunny Lane Funeral Home, 4000 SE 29th St., Del City, OK 73115.
Funeral services will be held at the same location at 10am Thursday, October 8, 2026, with a reception to follow next door (at the Bill Eisenhour Sunny Lane Event Center). The burial will take place at 1:30pm on Thursday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood, Oklahoma.
