July 30, 1947, the world was introduced to Effie Evelyn Bardsley, the daughter of Jimmie Ott and Myrtle V Smith of Oklahoma City, OK. The second of five children, Effie was a tomboy. She was tougher than all her brothers and they admitted it freely. Effie was known for not holding back her opinion and had a knack for telling it like it was. She always told you the truth even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear.
A hard-working mother of five boys, her world revolved around raising them to be men. Everyone in El Reno, OK, regarded them as respectful and considerate. They were as tough as their mother because she taught them to never run from a fight. They best not start it, but they sure better finish it.
She was a master cook in the kitchen. She could whip up dinner fit for a king (or 5 hungry boys) from anything found in the refrigerator, although the cabinet drawer could tell tales. She was famous for her biscuits and gravy. Just ask her granddaughter, Elizabeth. She's still bitter about being cheated as a child.
She wed William (Bill) Bardsley in 1986. After the boys moved away they relocated and settled at Grand Lake in Grove, OK. Effie was genuine to a fault, a pussy cat at heart (or lion) and yet she sugar-coated nothing. Everyone knew where they stood with her. She liked you or she didn't, and she wasn't ashamed to tell you why.
Effie is survived by her boys: "#1" Alan Prudhome(Kim), "#2" Herman Gray(Dana), "#3" Shelby Gray(Shannon), "#4" Brian Gray (Christi), and "#5" Joe Bardsley(Janie); 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Effie had accepted and knew Jesus Christ as her savior. On January 12, 2023, she received his promised reward as she joined her siblings: Delbert Roy Clay, David Lee Smith, Franklin Smith, and Josephine Jones; her husband William Bardsley and son Jamison Bardsley; her beloved infant daughter, Vondel Lanett Burk and adored pets Sadie and Harry.
Per her wishes, Effie will be cremated and the family will hold a memorial service to be held at a later date.
"Please don't cry because I'm gone; instead be happy I was there." Today she is happy and she is boot scootin' among the angels, her everything no longer hurting. Probably in a casino. Unless it's time for Days of Our Lives.
