Eldon Williams

Eldon Williams (86) passed away August 2, 2012. He was born November 22, 1925 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as the fourth of nine children born to R.B. and Thelma Williams. He attended Capitol Hill High School. In his youth, his dream was to be a baseball player, which was changed by WWII, where he served in the U.S. Army 3rd Battalion from 1944-1946. After the war, he came home and went to work at Southwestern Bell and joined the Air National Guard. He later joined the active duty U.S. Air Force and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant after 35 years of service. After he retired from the Air Force, he continued his service to his country as an active member of the DAV organization, where he served as Commander for a period of time. He was instrumental in establishing the DAV Honor Guard ensuring a proper service for fallen military comrades. He was a 32° Mason and Shriner and a member of the Myrtle Lodge. He was a member of the Sundowners Club of the State Fair of Oklahoma where he presided over the Flag Retreat Ceremony for many years. He is survived by a devoted daughter, Deanie, of Nashville, Tennessee; sisters, Blynn Spearman, Bonnie Myers, and Judy Hughes, all of Oklahoma City; longtime friend, Marty McGinnis; many beloved nieces and nephews; and his Jack Russell Terrier, Cha Cha. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Emma, Vi, Thelma June, and Joann; and two brothers, Dean and Tommy. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 7th at Sunny Lane Funeral Home Chapel with graveside services following at Sunny Lane Cemetery. Friends and relatives are welcome at Sunny Lane Funeral Home on Monday, August 6th from 12:00 to 8:00 PM for visitation. Many thanks to Valir Hospice Care, who provided much comfort to Eldon in his final days, as well as all the aides and caregivers at Norman Veterans Center.
