Elisa ‘Lisa’ Chavez Keene. Born October 10, 1955 in Olongapo City -The Philippines. Daughter or Juanito Chaves and Consuelo Chavez (Corilla). James William Keene and Elisa Chavez married in The Early Summer of 1974 in The Iglesia Ni Cristo Church of Christ in Olongapo City.
Elisa went to be with The Lord in The Holy City on the streets of gold on November 24, 2021. She was 66yrs old.
Lisa spent over 40 years as a resident in Midwest City, Oklahoma. This was her final city of rest. Lisa was a Graduate of Olongapo City National High School. Class of 1972. She continued studies later in life at Rose State College in Midwest City, OK.
In the 1980’s, Lisa worked for Century Martial Arts Supply in Midwest City and Chi-Chi’s Mexican restaurant for a number of years. In the late 80’s early 90’s she went on to start a career with The Hertz Corporation as a reservation agent. There she took in many new friends that she would eventually refer to as family. Through their Alumi Page on social media, many have reached out sharing their fond memories of her from the 90’s and 2000’s. Eventually, after close to 30 years of service, Lisa retired from The Hertz Corporation.
First and foremost, Sister Lisa’s first love had to be COOKING. And for anyone that knew her, they definitely knew her for her cooking. Lisa also loved to fish!!! Fishing was a past time that you could often find her enjoying. Many times her husband and son would be found at Lake Draper, Thunderbird or Overholser fishing through the night. As she reached retirement time, she found even more opportunity to fish. And as grandkids came, especially her grandson, she relished any opportunity to fish with him. In her final years, she was fortunate enough to have a good friend in Larry Vohs to take her out fishing on his boat. Collectively between her son, grandson and various friends, she found lots of fun fishing. But where could you really find Sister Lisa??? More times than not it was with her beloved Church Family. The Iglesia Ni Christo Church of Christ was truly her life’s work. She loved to serve the Lord. She loved to serve the members of her Church. Many from her church and locale’s across the nation are going to miss Auntie, sister and friend.
Lisa enjoyed traveling across the United States. Hawaii, California, Texas, Washington DC and many other destinations here in the states. But her absolute best vacations were the times she made it back to The Philippines to visit family.
As a grandmother she was more affectionately referred to by them as ‘Brown Grandma’. She was given this affectionate name by her youngest granddaughter Kinsley. Brown Grandma would consistently brag on her grandchildren. Her proudest moment is when her oldest granddaughter was in High School and she watched her perform in the choir or on the guard team. Her proudest moment was watching her grandson dominate on the football field. Her proudest moment watching her middle granddaughter show her sheep and goats. Her proudest moments watching her youngest daughter competitive dance. Equally, her proudest moments were watching her grandkids accel in their activities.
Lisa was an All Star Volleyball player for Olongapo City National High School (Jackson High School). In her adult years, she continued time with recreational volley ball with her church family and always enjoyed a good round of bowling!
Sister Lisa was a member of the Inglesia Ni Cristo Church of Christ. Serving in various capacities from an officer to the choir.
