Eunice Estelle Taylor, 90, is at peace and resting in the loving arms of Jesus as of June 3, 2015. She was born on April 22, 1925, in Winthrop, AR to Jim W. and Mamie Viola (Ray) Deaton. She was their last surviving child.
Eunice met her future husband of 69 years while he was a truck driver in the “C-C” camps, a government sponsored employment program. As she was walking to school, he would throw little notes out the truck window saying she was pretty. When he got up the nerve to talk to her, she asked him how he knew she even read the notes. He said “I always watched you in the rear view mirror”. Eunice Deaton and Gaines Taylor were married on August 31, 1941. He was 21 and she was l6. In just a short time, he was serving his country in the Navy, and Eunice awaited scarce news from the war arena in the south pacific. Returning home safely after the war, Eunice and Gaines started their family. Peggy was born in 1946 and Tommy in 1949. In 1950 the young family moved into a small new 2 bedroom home in Midwest City, and it remained Eunice’s home the next 65 years of her life.
The family joined Country Estates Baptist Church where all were baptized in the 50’s, and Eunice was a long time Sunday school teacher. Eunice enjoyed any hobby that involved using her hands. She was an excellent seamstress, even applying her skills to upholstery. She actively involved herself in the children’s school activities and for many years was fondly known as the “popcorn” lady every Friday afternoon at the elementary school. Eunice worked for Dr. Walter & Hilary Pipkin as their dental office custodian for over 20 years. She never drove a car but that didn’t slow her down because she was an avid walker. She walked somewhere every day, weather permitting, well into her 80’s. Eunice’s family was her biggest delight. Each one of her grandchildren will tell you they were the favorite. Her favorite “things” were flowers, flowers and flowers. Little Debbie snack cakes, Juicy fruit gum, Root beer…..well – anything sweet!
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Gains Newton Taylor; son-in-law, Earl Pierce; and siblings, Dolly, Rosie, Alfred, Shirley, Mary Jo and Beau. Eunice is survived by children, Tommy Taylor (Karen), Peggy Pierce; grandchildren, Dusti Wideman (Garry), Kevin Taylor, Angie Woods (Chris); great-grandson, Nikolas Wideman. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Arlington Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Condolences may be offered at www.eisenhourfuneral.com
